Today, Monday, July 27, 2020, the General Evangelical Council and the heads of Evangelical Denominations, headed by Dr. Andre Zaki, President of Protestant Churches in Egypt, met via electronic means of communication to discuss the gradual return of worship in churches.
At the beginning of the meeting, the attendees thanked God for the role played by the Egyptian state, led by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and the Egyptian government led by Dr. Moustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, as well as all the workers of the medical sector, to limit the spread of the Coronavirus. The attendees decided the following:
1- The gradual return to worship in churches is starting on Monday 3 August, provided that the suspension of worship continues on Friday and Sunday until further notice, taking into account all precautionary measures, as well as the recommendations of the Medical Advisory Committee of the Presidency of Protestant Churches.
2- As for attending funerals and weddings, only 50% of the hall or church area is allowed.
3- Administrative meetings are allowed for a maximum of 50 people in a room that can accommodate at least 100 people.
4- Allowing attendance at conference and retreats’ homes, as well as guesthouses to reach 50% of the home space, and to be open for families and individuals, with the possibility of holding meetings according to the return system to churches.
5- Allowing the attendance to increase in ordination and inauguration procedures to reach 50% of the church hall area.
6- Allow the return of the Lord's Supper, while taking all the precautionary measures declared in the guiding film and the recommendations of the medical advisory committee affiliated with the Presidency of Protestant Churches.
7- These decisions will continue until further notice. At the end of the meeting, we pray God to preserve the leadership and people of Egypt and gives wisdom to the political leadership in facing all the challenges surrounding our dear homeland, Egypt.
