Based on the decisions of the last meeting of the Evangelical Council and the heads of Evangelical denominations headed by Reverend Dr. Andrea Zaki, President of the Protestant Churches in Egypt, to follow up the Medical Advisory Committee to monitor the medical situation in all Evangelical churches during February and March.
The committee had a meeting, headed by Dr. Freddy Al-Bayadi, with members:
Dr. Yasser Farah,
Dr. Nader Qalini,
Dr. Imad Muhareb,
Dr. Amir Adel,
and after following up through several re-sources, it was found that there has been a decrease in the rate of Covid-19 Cases during the past days, but there is a possible expectation of a new wave and an increase in Covid-19 Cases in the coming days, so the committee advised the following:
1. The necessity to apply the principle of one and a half meters of physical spacing between individuals from all directions (and family members who live together in the same housing unit can be treated as one individual, meaning that they are allowed to sit close together). The number of attendees has not been determined; It can be determined by applying safe social distances.
2. A commitment to wearing a mask throughout the period of praise and worship, provided that the period of praise and worship with the participation of church congregation does not exceed 20 minutes, with the possibility of adding more times of praise from the worship leader without the participation of the people.
3. Commitment to wear a mask all the time in the place.
4. Fans and air condition should not be operated in closed space, and if they are necessary, the doors and windows must be opened to renew the air in the hall. It is best to use open spaces or places with good ventilation as much as possible and according to the capabilities of each church.
5. It is preferable for the speaker (preacher) to use the microphone that is fixed in his clothes so that no more than one person uses the same microphone. Or provide a separate microphone for each person, the same microphone is never exchanged and sterilized before and after the end of each meeting.
6. Musical and vocal instruments are sterilized before and after the meeting.
7. In the event that there is more than one meeting on the same day, there should be sufficient break time between the meetings, to give the opportunity to carry out sterilization procedures.
8. Clear the church from carpets; As it is difficult to disinfect regularly.
9. Put a pedal soaked in chlorine in the entrance to the church.
10. The building and the church are permanently sterilized before and after each gathering.
11. The duration of any meeting should not exceed an hour, taking into account all the precautionary measures in social and communal activities, as well as in worship and spiritual activities.
12. It is preferable to return meetings gradually, so that we start with one meeting for a specific category and type in the first week, then another meeting is added for another group in the following week, and so on gradually until all procedures are properly applied and developments are followed up (with an emphasis on adherence to all precautionary measures.).
13. Requirements for protection like masks, surface and hand disinfectants, and soap must be provided. A remote thermometer is recommended.
14. It is forbidden for anyone suffering from any symptoms (high temperature, coughing, difficulty breathing, pain in the throat, loss of sense of smell or taste, vomiting, diarrhea, body pain) he and all his contacts.
15. It is strictly forbidden to use books in the church. And they are replaced by mobile phones or display devices (screens or projectors), and in the event that it is necessary to use books in Discipleship groups or book study, everyone must bring his personal book.
16. For weddings and funerals, the same meeting procedures apply (applying physical and social distancing, wearing masks ...).
17. As for the funeral prayer, in the event that the cause of death is a corona infection, it is preferable to pray in the cemetery.
18. It is preferable to record the data of the attendees at every meeting whenever possible to facilitate the tracing of the infection in the event that any infections appear.
19. In the event that any cases of infection appear in any church, the assembly to which the church is affiliated must be informed, and the church must be closed for a period of two weeks, with all necessary measures taken to completely sterilize the place. It is also necessary to communicate with all those present at the meeting attended by the injured person to take all preventive measures and personal isolation.
20. The church appoints a person or a committee to follow up all safety procedures, whether related to its meetings and members, or the funeral and wedding service, then with individuals and families of all sects who request the use of the building / church.
21. All procedures applicable to church meetings and gatherings also apply to conference centers.
22. In implementation of the principle of coexistence with the virus, and since we do not know yet when this period will end and life return back as normal, the Medical Advisory Committee for the Presidency of the Protestant Churches encourages everyone to use and apply creative methods and methods of communication and company while taking all precautionary measures to protect each other and encourage churches to exchange Or post these thoughts on the circulation pages of its own.
