Rev. Dr. Andrea Zaki, President of the Protestant Church in Egypt, said that the state of June 30, led by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, seeks to apply the law to everyone. It is a state of citizenship and equality by all standards, pointing to the facilities provided by the state in the file of building and legalizing churches, in addition to approval on establishing the Evangelical Endowment Authority, which he described as a “long-awaited dream.”
During his interview with Al-Dustour, he explained that the various churches agreed on most of the unified personal status law provisions after the differences in the articles relevant to spouses' separation were receded.
Rev. Dr. Andrea praised Pope Tawadros II, and Sheikh of Al-Azhar and the Minister of Endowments, describing them as moderate religious leaders who are loyal to the homeland and seek its unity within a frame of love.
He described the Coronavirus crisis as a universal quake that affected the whole world in light of its negative effects on the lives of individuals, societies, and countries’ economies. As a result, Evangelical Church contributed to several activities to alleviate the “Corona” crisis for the poor and injured, especially in Upper Egypt, and to support those in need with food and medical supplies to face the crisis.
